Our very own Robin Nason recently had the pleasure of speaking to Sonja Bennett, who plays Callie Curie, dry-cleaner and love-interest of Jack Carter, on the show.

In another VisitEureka.net exclusive interview, Sonja discusses herself, her character and the stories of Eureka, as well as some of her other roles.

Be sure to check out Sonja's official website, at http://www.sonjabennett.ca.

VisitEureka.net - Please tell us about yourself. What are your hobbies? Do you enjoy sports, or collecting things?

Sonja Bennett - Well... I live in an old house with my boyfriend and two cats in a sort of hippie neighborhood in Vancouver, British Columbia. Most of my spare time these days is spent fixing up my house and yard. My mom has a green thumb so when I started gardening I thought that I was naturally going to have a touch with plants but everything I plant dies! I give my plants fertilizer and water them and treat them nicely but no avail. I am starting to seriously think about a Chinese rock garden in my front lawn.

VisitEureka.net - And for the pet lovers on the site, are you a dog or cat person?

Sonja - I am an animal person. It takes me fifteen minutes to walk a coffee shop that is five minutes away because I need to stop and visit with every cat and dog along the way. A bunch of my family members pitched in and had portrait painted of my two cats for my birthday. It is so cheesy that I think it comes back round the other side to being cool...maybe not.

VisitEureka.net - You have many credits to your name and several awards--what has it been like?

Sonja - Being an actress (especially a Canadian actress) is a weird thing. I can win an award and then get up the next morning and audition for a six line part. Sometimes it's frustrating but it keeps you humble.

VisitEureka.net - What roles have you enjoyed the most?

Sonja - I played a zombie in a film called FIDO last year. It was scary and exciting to have to convey things without the crutch of dialogue. It was also a pleasure to wake up in the morning and look in the mirror and think 'oh, man, I look like hell today...PERFECT!'

VisitEureka.net - Where do you see your career heading?

Sonja - Truthfully I have no idea where my career is headed. Some days I wake and want to move to LA to try to become a movie star and the next day I'll wake up and just want to pop out babies and bake cookies.

VisitEureka.net - Which do you like better--movie or television roles?

Sonja - There are great things about both. You get more time to experiment as an actor shooting films but being a regular on a television series gives you the opportunity to really get to know your character and all the practice makes me limber as a performer.

VisitEureka.net - So many of the members of the forum have a desire to enter the industry; can you give us any practical suggestions to help get started?

Sonja - Get training in your desired field. People study to be doctors, lawyers, mechanics...give acting (or whatever you want to do) the same respect. There are people out there that are brilliant without having had any schooling but they are rare.

VisitEureka.net - Do you see yourself ever being behind the camera? If so, what would you like to do?

Sonja - My father is a screenwriter and he has always encouraged me to write. I finally took it up a few years ago and have found being able to do something creative without having someone dictate when and where I can do it very freeing. I am currently working on a script called CHRISTMAS IS FOR CATS- did I mention I like my cats?

VisitEureka.net - Who influenced you most in this field?

Sonja - Well, Sarah Polley is a huge inspiration to me. I love the choices she has made in her career. And working with Tim Blake Nelson on Fido has changed the way that I approach acting. He was always concerned about the story in its entirety and whether scenes worked as opposed to...is my line good? And that selflessness made him brilliant in the movie.

VisitEureka.net - Had you seen Eureka before getting the role of Callie?

Sonja - Yes, I had. I worked with Neil Grayston on a Canadian series called Godiva's. He was the sous chef to my pastry chef so I originally tuned in to watch my friend and then fell in love with the show. It is just my kind of sci fi- smart, funny, and with lots of heart.

VisitEureka.net - How would you describe Callie? What do you see her motives being? She has been pretty up front with Jack so far; what do you think of her advances?

Sonja - Callie is the resident drycleaner in Eureka but used to work at GD. She is bubbly, honest and a bit awkward. She left GD in search of a 'normal' life and I think she sees in Jack someone that she could potentially settle down with and start a family. They share an interest in the simpler things in life. So far I think her motives have been genuine. As to where she ends up? I'll leave that to the writers.

VisitEureka.net - With the feelings that Jack has for Allison, do you see any hope for a long-term relationship for Callie with him? And if not, how do you see Callie taking it?

Sonja - Well we've seen in a previous episode that Allison and Jack get married in the future so I think his relationship with Callie is part of the journey that leads him to Allison. Hopefully that journey is an interesting one. How will Callie take it if Carter breaks up with her? Maybe she'll go psycho and stalk him!....just kidding. I have no idea.

VisitEureka.net - What was it like on the set of Eureka?

Sonja - The Eureka set is a very fun, warm, creative place to be. The set of Callie's dry-cleaning business was across the street from a bowling alley so Colin and I bowled between set ups...I kicked his bowling butt.

VisitEureka.net - Who did you enjoy working with the most?

Sonja - Well most of my scenes were with Colin so he is the actor I got to know the best. Colin is one of those people that make everyone around him feel special. He is a wonderful person and a hugely generous actor.

VisitEureka.net - Will we be seeing you in Season Three?

Sonja - I hope so!

VisitEureka.net - What are you working on right now? Are there any parts coming up soon in which we can be looking for you?

Sonja - I've got two movies coming out this year. Young People F***ing (not as hard core as it sounds) and Control Alt Delete.

VisitEureka.net - Is there anything that you would like to share with the readers on the site?

Sonja - Keep on rocking in the free world!
